Blog #4

According to this article, billions of people are dying due to obesity and diabetes. In the top 10 developed countries in the world, more people are dying from being overweight then underweight. Obesity is being found in the middle and upper classes. The UN decided something needs to be done to stop this and is meeting to talk over this health issue. The only other time the UN has had a meeting over a health issue was in 2001 on AIDS. Since the death rate for obese people is so high, it leaves the UN with no other options.

I think this article is very interesting because just last week I did my article on poverty and how every three seconds someone dies because of starvation. I think it is really weird and messed up that half of this world is dying from starvation and half is dying from obesity. Something needs to be done. The food amounts in this world need to change and find a constant level.

  1. What a strange world this is when people are dying in part from either too much or too little food. It is strange comparing the diets of the poor around the world, where in the Appalachian Mountains and other especially poor areas in America, babies are given Mountain Dew because it is cheaper than formula, versus the poor in underdeveloped countries where children drink toxic water. While these people are on opposite sides of the world, the children still suffer from poor nutrition. The nutrition problem in the world is often larger than we realize: it directly affects everyone from poor to rich.

  2. Where is the happy medium? There is either too much or too little. However, obesity is totally preventable! It seems like the problem does not have to do with the resources, it with pride. People do not have pride in their health anymore. A person should want to keep themselves healthy. Especially, when other countries do not even have enough food to feed half of their people. Take advantage of the resources that are provided, but not so much that you are disrespecting your own health. Obesity is a serious problem, and frighteningly, it is becoming acceptable to be obese!

  3. I can believe obesity is killing more people then starvation ind developing countries. There should be no reason why this should be the case. This is issue is just a matter of self control. There is no need to eat greasy burgers or high amounts of desserts. Education is something that could help prevent obesity.
