According to this article, Greece is fighting its way against poverty. The prime minister gives a speech saying they will do whatever it takes to get Greece back on its feet.  The prime minister from Greece is trying to get Europe to expand its funds from the European Financial Stability Facility in order to help stabilize them. Europe support groups have funded Greece a lot of money but now internationals are saying that Greece should take care of the rest of the funding in order to help them stabilize themselves. Europe does not want to give Greece any more money because they have already gave so much. The problem is that if Greece cannot stabilize themselves and end their poverty, they will have to end the euro in Greece.

Since poverty is a central issue in the world, Greece needs to end their poverty now. If Greece cannot fix their problem and they fall deeper into poverty then they can be stuck in a very dangerous position. Poverty leads to starvation and disease. If Greece drops to the level where they fall deeply into poverty, they will then have high death and disease rates. AIDS will spread rapidly though their country because they will not have medicine to care it.  Along with disease, the country will not be able to afford food or water for the citizens. With no clean water people will die quickly.  Besides the water problem, with no food to offer to citizens, people will be dying daily from starvation. The worse part of all is if Greece cannot keep themselves at a constant, steady level then they will slowly rip apart and eventually break off into a country they never want to become.

  1. This seems to be the trend of many countries now a days. Greece should be aided, otherwise you are right, a worsening downfall will begin. Poverty needs to dealt with all over the world. Especially in places like Greece that are not fully poverty stricken. They are going to be easier to help then other places than say developing countries. Why not help them get back on their feet?

  2. The plight Greece is in now should be a wake-up call for the European Union and the rest of the world. Greece needs to be aided by other countries financially; however, Greece needs to be wary about how much it relies on other nations for support. By having economies of countries tied as closely as they are in the EU runs the risk of affecting many countries simultaneously and pushing them towards extreme poverty if some disaster were to occur. Countries need to help each other out first for the betterment and survival of the world, and secondly for the betterment of each country's economy.

  3. I have never thought of Greece as a location with vast amount of poverty. That’s really surprising that they could lose the Euro if they don’t do something to change. Like you said, poverty leads to many problems. Like we have learned in class, poverty leads to health problems and is an endless cycle. Therefore, Europe and Greece should try its best to keep Greece away from poverty. We already have enough poverty in this world we should try our best to prevent more from rising.
